I can trace a love of huge cumulonimbus clouds and Japanese countryside back to growing up with movies like Totoro and Laputa, and living on the coast and looking out to a lighthouse-tipped island beam away into the dark night has completely inspired an infatuation with everything oceanic. Beyond Good and Evil helped with that as well.
I could also believe in the isolated comfort factor as well.
Past a certain point of reasoning though, some images really are just beautiful. Unapologetically magnificent.
