Now Japanese makes sense now. Like, actual sense. Like, I'm not standing at a perpetual arm's breadth away from the language, knowing that 建前 or something means "such and such" according to my Japanese dictionary, and should probably mean X in a particular context, but I'm actually snapping to what is trying to be conveyed like a magnet to one of those magnetic boards.
It clicks and it feels so good.
Takes a while though. Just keep plugging away, especially when you reach intermediate Japanese, when you start to deal with authentic materials and shit gets MESSY. If you have the balls to trudge through intermediate to advanced Japanese, then you have literally done something 99% of the human population will never do (non-native speakers of Japanese, that is), and something 70% of the human population do not have the /potential/ to do.
God speed and don't give up. I know so many guys who were full of fire when they were working with Genki just fizzle out when they hit intermediate because that's when they actually had to start to think and not just memorize grammatical structure and regurgitate vocabulary.
