Fuck compiling from source for everything, only the old greybeards and basement-dwelling power users get off on how "superior" compiling from source is. Is has it's advantages, but most of the type, you just need to get shit done and not fuck with shit for hours, trying to get it to work (like drivers for certain NICs...).
That said, I think the only Mint and Puppy are the only two distros I can think of that are more noob-friendly than Ubuntu
