To me, fills, unless done masterfully, will always look better than strokes. However I also realise that fills still require some degree of skill, else they looks like total shit due to major thickness inconsistencies.
In the end, I see nothing wrong with the use of strokes, especially for people just starting out, as they are easier, and can be regarded as a stepping stone.
HOWEVER.
Strokes that have just been plonked out, and left as is are never good. leaving the terminals as simple rounded points, unless they fit within the context of the source image, look pathetic. People should at least go to the trouble of fiddling with them untill it looks reasonable.
Not going to pretend it's beautiful, but i'll call on the second vector I ever made as an example.

On another note, having got a bit of a warmup with that C3 vector, i've been getting a bit of work done on my mecha girl. here's a progress update. Not much new, but it's something.
