Because you know one is a dream and other is real.
It's only possible if you make yourself unable to tell whenever it's real or fantasy. But then you risk encountering real danger that can threaten both sides of your reality. You won't be able to unlock deeper forms of consciousness if your dreams will make you dead or ruin your brain chemistry.
