It definitely improves the quality of the render... but the darker I make the outlines the less they blend with the inner lines I can't modify (read: would take blood, sweat, and tears to modify). For inconsistent outlines in source images, I've come to the conclusion that there exist only two ideal scenarios:
A) Leave the render *imperfect*
B) Vector the damn thing
