Then I used the patch tool in destination mode to copy around some of the dark blue strokes and otherwise correct them through trial and error. For the record, the spot healing tool is aware of its immediate surroundings by sampling, so all of its replacements will have context to the surroundings, in this case retaining the scanlines.
