It's definitely based on Asian culture though.
But I don't think you are going to win over the die hard back seat moderators by quoting the rules when even the rules can be interpreted to one side or the other.
My suggestion is that those who feel this thread is in violation of the rules should just report it and get on with their lives. The people who contribute to this thread can do so without all the drama, and it might even be removed by the real moderators if they feel it is in violation of the rules. It is a win win for everyone involved.
