>>1351798Loved the whole Anime = Animation argument and you're correct, it is shorthand for a slightly longer word, however it's been accepted into the pantheon that Anime is it's on genre that includes an art style and nothing now can be done to change that fact, despite your arguments.
I walk into a store lets say Best Buy, I see rows of American cartoon dvd's and a little further down I see a section clearly labeled Anime which houses, you guessed it, nothing but Animation that comes from Japan.
Another example would be the various conventions held in several states country wide, those Anime conventions, they don't call them Japanese Animation Conventions now do they? No they're called Anime Conventions and as you may have guessed again, have nothing but Animation and movies, manga and drawings that hail from non other than Japan, not a single American cartoon, comic book, plush or movie can be seen.
Hell even in book stores you will see Manga in it's own section and not bunched together with the smaller comics section.
But as for your Target and Wal-Mart argument, they can categorize anything in their store however they see fit, but it doesn't make them right either to bunch together two things that are completely different, but for the sake of conserving floor space they do anyway.
We can argue back and forth over who is right and who is wrong, at this point it doesn't matter, but you cannot deny one irrefutable truth, that Avatar is an American made cartoon that has various references to Chinese culture and not Japanese, despite having an Anime-ish style, it still does not make it an Anime that hails from Japan.
Now lets put this to rest and let the thread die it's slow painful death.
