Not worth the extra file size. You really don't need lossless for wallpapers, as you can't really tell the visual difference between a max quality JPG and a PNG.

Also, fun fact: on Windows XP, desktop icon text shadow does not work on PNG wallpapers.

Windows 7 compresses PNGs when you set them as a wallpaper, so they end up looking like horribly compressed jpegs. I have no idea why it does that, but jpegs are the best way to go for wallpapers.

Yeah but if you actually care about something, you wouldn't go with lossy jpegs. It's not 1995, you don't have to store everything on floppy disks.
