If all you're looking for is a ton of pics of your favorite animu, wallbase/4walled/etc are actually much better resources than /w/.
consistently referring "requesters" to /r/ is meant to encourage people to contribute rather than simply rely on the generosity of others. If you lurk for a week and see this response on a regular basis, you'll be that much more likely to try to start off a thread with something of your own-- Because that's what /w/ is all about: sharing all those cool walls you found with other people who might appreciate them.
Besides, if /r/ doesn't help them, then maybe they'll have to learn to use Google image search.
