These are great to make backgrounds with, because you can scale the same image to fit in an area 600 pixels high, 20000 pixels high, or even 20 pixels high, and the thing would look EXACTLY THE SAME.
The ones with just the background removed only have a finite scale before they become artifacted, choppy, blocky or blurry. These vectors (if as vectors and not rasterized images, as they are here in .png form) are crisp at any resize level.
