OP here, these are some of my favorites

i really like the desolate, lonely feeling in these cityscapes, where people may or may not be implied but the focus is the grand machinery of a city, and how the artist uses light to make them hyper-real/dreamlike

i'll x-post some from the high-detail thread that i liked

I came across a site once entirely devoted to images of Japan in ruins. Hyper-realistic. I recognized a number of places. Railroad stations, that inverted-pyramid building where they hold Anime conventions, etc.

The art was nice -- but this was two days after the earthquake/tsunami/Fukashima and it didn't seem appropriate to linger and enjoy the destruction.
Never found the site again.
