Those are pretty much it. From my experience Holo locker is the most reliable lock screen, in the sense that it almost always works properly. The screen turns on immediately, and its holo locker not the stock screen. Widget locker give you the best customization but it can be hit or miss as far as when it decides to work.

Its a pain in the ass. You have to pick between a good lock screen, or a riced out "lock screen" that comes with increased battery use.

Just reworked mine today from some random image in pixiv I found.

The solid line would look much better. The icons you have look good as they are. If you make the two stripes one big stripe then I would suggest just using one single line of icons over the two small ones. If you play with the launcher's grid size you may bet able to get them all to fit just on the pink bar

The google search bar looks out of place, if it stretched across the screen it may be better, but it my be better to just get rid of it.

The battery being blue does not fit in well. Making it white would be better (if you can change it)

The power toggles text is messed up. Just remove the text. You have icons that tell you what they change.

Finally the airdroid widget does not fit. Just add the air droid app icon to one of the screens. It actually would be pretty cool if you filled that entire bottom row with air droid icons and used an invisible icon so you can't see them but the entire bottom row will open the app no matter where you tap.

Somehow, it feels cramped. Those the icons should be moved down.
And try a more minimalistic clock/everything widget. I'd recommend Zooper Widget, put in about an hour with Zooper, you could do anything.
The glowing buttons on the music widget seem off, see if you can change that, get them to be flat white.
Over all I like the picture. 4/10 Needs work.

Basically Nexus 5 is best price performance since the screen is fantastic and the specs are great for 400USD. Gs4 id outdated and a bit shitty like always in build quality. Moto G is the 200USD budget phone that is supposed to have good value as well although the specs are shitty.
Avoid HTC phones in my opinion. Sense is shit and they always lack good dev communities.
the new Google Play Xperia looks ok as well if you're into phablets.
The Note 3 is generally considered the top end at about 750USD. Again mind samshit build quality and AMOshit screen.

Tl;dr I would advise a Nexus 5 because of price to performance. I just got one. Came from a failing S2

Amoled screens are awesome. If you have a black image the screen is practically off there. You get mad battery life that way. Your dissing the build quality of high end phones but the suggesting low end phones with worse build quality. WTF. Note 3 is only good if you want a phablet like with the xperia. LG and Motorola have superior build quality any day over anything Samsung.

Samsung makes their phones very cheaply, with a plastic back. The bezels and frame is made of cheap materials as well that are prone to cracking. Amoled is also over saturated and is infamous on older devices for having issues with images burning into the screen as well as banding. Not to mention that Samsung customer service is atrocious. (see recent story about an overheating S4 that they refused to replace.Long story short, the owner got a Lumia for free after bitching on Twitter)
The only thing Samsung still has going for its devices is removable battery and expandable storage.

I don't see the problem with the Holler widget, but I do have a problem with the asymmetry.

Try to find a way to center the widget and maybe move the icons to be vertically centered. The wallpaper as well cause it seem seems to be to high up.

Lastly, the other anon noted this as well but a flat white music widget would look much nicer.

6/10 not bad but needs some tweaking.

I have no clue how you are still using Gingerbread/ICS in 2014. Anyway, the general opinion on is that Samsung phones are relatively cheap in build quality. Also I never mentioned the Nexus 4 in my posts. I was talking about the Nexus 5 and its cheaper alternative the Moto G.
Nexus 5 has the best screen out now (subjectively of course), a 5 inch 1080x1920 IPS type with 445ppi, a much higher pixel density than anything out now.

I'm still on Gingerbread because that is where my phone was discontinued. I haven't bothered to flash a new ROM because shit has just worked, and I don't want to loose 4+ years of stuff saved on the phone. The nexus 4 is made by LG, a company that has "superior build quality". It was an example of where you are wrong about LG building better phones over samsung. Also the gs4 has 441 ppi. That nexus 5 is not much better considering how much newer it is. As >>1611616 pointed out, the HTC one is better than both of them. The nexus 5 has an 8mega pixel camera, the s4 has 13. You can go back and forth with this all day. If you biggest gripe is the screen then you are missing out on and overlooking a load of other important features.

Like what, a bloated launcher? Gimmick software features? The N5's processor is the same as the Note3's and it is optimized for stock Android without custom launcher bloat. That is all for half of the price of the Note 3. The S4 costs almost double the N5 as well and can't stand up to the N5 at all in terms of processing power and strong dev community among other factors like the screen which are pointless to argue about since they are subjective. As someone like you that relies on official updates SAmsung fucks you over since they drop old flagships like pieces of shit and make their customers wait months for an OS update.
Also, megapixels do not automatically equate to better picture quality but the camera sensor and quality is also largely subjective`.

i don't know who wax complaining about screens here but most people don't use their phones for fucking graphic design or something... most people use phones for browsing web and shit like that mostly... sure it's cool to have better color quality and shit but matters more is battery life and eye comfort... and it's not like amoleds look horrible either..
. phones are something you replace fast too so burn ins are not that horrible of an issue... so i can see why some people would prefer amoleds... it's really a matter of preference and they're fine for phones really...

i have an xperia fiy... not a big fan of samsung and i agree with a lot if complains here... but not the screens cause there fine...

Like >>1611880 said a thin font will work best, but it may get lost in all the lines you have on that wallpaper. If you go with a digital clock setting the font color to a dark gray and slight transparency (like the icons have) will help it stand out without looking like it was painted on the image with mspaint.

An analogue clock may work out best with this wall though.

From what my friends have told me, it allows for maximum phone ricing...And the latest and greatest updates without having to wait for the carriers to push them through. (my last 2 Android based phones took AGES for OTA updates to pop up).

Root will let you get down to the system files and tweak almost every aspect of your phone. 90% of your ricing needs can be done with a stock rom, unrooted. Stability can improve or get worse after rooting depending on what tweaks you enable, and what you mess with. As for the latest and greatest updates, as far as I know you have to flash roms to get those updates, so will have to wipe your phone every time you want to update. There are ways to back up data, but just be aware that rooting does not magically avoid carriers or manufactures updates to just pour in. Infact rooting can prevent OTA updates depending on the carrier you have.

You can dissable most of that so it never runs, but it is still installed. Rooting does let you use an app called "titanium backup" and uninstall all that bloat ware. You have be careful with what you get rid of though. When you root the phone in simplest terms you are running on an administrator account, so if you try to delete the wrong stuff the phone will not question it.

What can I do with this wallpaper? I have two ideas
1: simply adding widgets and icons as white stuff on half-transparent rectangles
2. making a bunch of colorful splash pngs like the one in the pic and using them as backgrounds for widgets etc.

You can but the button/icon is more convenient, I miss the physical magnifying glass search button android used to use. Also some phones don't have the swipe option because they use physical buttons (galaxy s series), or are running a really messed up version android (pantec)

Why don't people put multiple screen shots on one image in these threads? Its like we have to get 3 posts from one person to show off a theme. If you are posting from a phone I can understand making it all one image is hard, but if you have a frame around the phone and are using scrotter then you set it up to make one big image from the multiple shots.

Ok, slow down man. You need to take this one step at a time. Judging by the Jewgle comment and asking about Cyanogenmod I'm guessing you are using an android. Before you try to rice it out get a feel for the phone and OS. Look up some stuff about default un riced android. The pastebin is not so much a guide, but a quick rundown of the basic components you need to customize you phone semi successfully.

Like Graph said, explain what is getting you caught up (If it is multiple things list them one at a time) so we can help walk you through it. I would recommend using the phone for a week to get a feel for it before you start making it look pretty.

Fluffy/10, goddamn that hair looks soft. All the white makes the choice of a white clock questionable, and your icons are really light as well which makes the whole thing sort of hurt to look at. Work with your clock, make it look less stock and make it contrast more with the wall, and change the battery color to white since that seems to be your general theme. Interesting choice of red for the clock. I'd make it white, or maybe the hot pink from the streetlight or the red/burgundy in the windows or something if you wanted. I'm not too keen on my lockscreen slider, but I can't find a slider that actually fits my theme since they're all either metallic or minimalistic. Also, Multipicture doesn't work on my phone for some reason. I try and set different pictures for each page but once I'm done it only applies the same picture to each and has no transition. I love this style, very clean and crisp.

The contrast is for whatever reason a lot better on the actual phone screen, but aside from that I pretty much keep my main apps open all the time and switch between them with the home button so I don't need to access stuff from the homescreen all that often.

I'm pretty closet about being a weeaboo. Aside from coming into my apartment and seeing my collection there's not really any way to know I'm into this stuff unless you told me. Openly having a wallpaper like this is pretty hardcore for me.

Solid 8/10 at best. The app drawr icon is a little hard to see against her shirt, so if you could make it lighter that would make it contrast more. Change the blue in the noification center to match the blue in the sky and maybe hide it so that it opens with a gesture and you're set.

Oh! Shit, sorry, I didn't think you might've been color blind. If so then it's probably not bothering you if you haven't changed it, so no point in changing it then. I'd say white or a softer blue would work. Since this is for Christmas, green might work well. I attached some color samples of examples of what I mean. Really you could just pick nearly any shade of green so long as it's not super saturated or bright. If you put it against the red and it doesn't burn your eyes out, you're good to go.

I know this is a phone thread but... I just got a nexus 7 and I've only used android on my phone before, so I'm familiar with it but could some people give me some reccomendations for apps?

I need a:
- file manager (Preferably one the isn't riddled with advertisements like what I'm using currently)
- zip extractor (Andro Zip is okay but filled with advertisements too)
- Manga reader (Using perfect view for now for reading manga on the devices local storage, is there anything better)

The one thing I hate about Android is how just about every developer is such a filthy money grabbing fucking Jew, I hate it so much it makes me shake with rage when I can't get some decent software without it being full of ads. I can't believe they think doing that will cause people to buy the premium version, it just makes me either root the device or pirate a premium version, they should make good software and rely on donations, at least that way they don't piss of their userbase.

Also, a question about rooting, I've doine my phone before and had no trouble but this N7, does it matter what version of android you're on? Or can you root on any (I'm on Kit-kat right now)

You could put it in a frame or just make an image the proper size and just put your phone on it and leave the empty space. My phone's resolution is too small as well and that's just what I do.

Pick colors from the image for your clock and date, otherwise they kinda stand out as random colors. Change the bright blue in your status bar (or better yet, hide it and open it with gestures or something). Get an icon pack that fits the color scheme as well.

I just went for red and blue like the shikigami and couldn't be troubled to find the exact colors. I'd put more widgets, use a better background, and put more care in choosing colors once I get a phone with more space to work with. I'll look around for an icon pack but it doesn't bother me much. How does one hide the status bar on a phone with no custom roms available that isn't compatible with kitkat?

If you don't like the adds then find a new app or pay. You are not being forced to use the ones with adds. Alternatively install add block. Don't act like the developers need to cater to you. The adds are rarely intrusive, stop being an entitled little piece of shit.

Here's my first attempt at the simplicity I see here on /w/ and I got to say, I'm loving it. Mine is not rooted so this is just me messing with some apps and such, I'm using Apex launcher. I got the dock and status bar hidden away with a swipe and no lockscreen. I can't find a decent free app for this, but I enjoy the freedom of icon position on the homescreen so I don't care.

From time to time I still go back to use the stock lockscreen if the clock doesn't conflict with my wallpaper.

I know the middle screen is too common, but fuck it I love that wall. Any suggestions?

Alright, I'm sorry to bother you guys again but I think I fucked my phone up. You can skip to TLDR if you want, I'm not sure how related it is to the rest of this post. I tried asking /g/ but they weren't much help (naturally). My phone is an LG Optimus L3 E425, and I tried rooting it by using this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2173997 .
The guide wasn't for my exact model but I figured that it wouldn't be a problem since everything I checked out said that SuperOneClick was more or less universal. So I tried doing it and it got to the part where it said "waiting for device to respond" or somesuch, and then it froze. Since it wouldnt work, I shut it down and tried to use this: http://theunlockr.com/2013/11/30/root-android-device-framaroot-method/
which looks a lot better (I only found out about it after I'd tried the first). But...

TLDR: I can't connect my phone to my PC at all anymore. When I try to, it makes the "hardware found" noise, shows up in removable storage devices for an instant, then makes the "hardware disconnected sound" and disappears. I tried checking the connections but it seems fine from a physical point of view. I have installed the drivers from the site on my PC. Does anyone know what the fuck is wrong?

Just get back into download mode for your device and you should be fine. I am sure there are plenty of guides on how to get out of a softbrick

Are you sure it's a softbrick? Everything works fine except for the USB. Also I'm using an obscure service provider in an obscure country, what if I can't find the default firmware online?

I can get you the exact ones if you like, it's as easy as popping open Photoshop and grabbing the hex codes. But I get what you mean. I don't know about the status bar, so just leave it I suppose. If it doesn't bother you, no point in changing it. Good luck getting a new phone, anon.

The screen on the right has a white line under the softkeys, any idea what that is? As for the clock, try looking into Zooper or UCCW and making your own with them. Elegante is in my opinion really overused (and a pretty shitty clock to boot) but that's just me. Otherwise, it's decent.

Oh. I assumed you were in a bootloop. Looks like you corrupted the driver that serves for the usb function. Just try a factory reset from your phone settings if you can get into your phone.
