THIS IS THE IMAGE MODIFICATION THREAD (IMT)
Welcome to IMT
We are here to help. All wallpaper and image modification requests are welcome, within reason.
>Requesters: ● Anyone who offers to help is doing so on their own time, so don't forget to thank them.
● Always do a reverse image search before posting an image.
● Explain your request as best you can.
● Don't take it personally if your request is skipped or overlooked.
● We do these requests for free, please don't redistribute these for upvotes or the sort elsewhere.
● There is a separate thread for vectors, please take vector requests there.
● Removing the background from an image is a RENDER, NOT a vector.
● Refrain from arguing about the "RENDER" word, it's just a slang for removing the background.
>All: ● Be polite and try to use proper spelling.
● Feel free to shower us with critique.
>More Information: ● Images SMALLER than 480x600 pixels are not allowed. (100000x599 or 479x100000 will not work)
● Supported file types are: GIF, JPG, PNG
● Maximum file size allowed is 6 MB.
● Thanks /wg/ for this copypasta

Rerequesting if anyone feels like it this thread.>Is it possible to make this image I just found on pixiv into a 1080x1920 resolution for a phone wallpaper? I know it's probably quite difficult, but I would really appreciate it if someone could expand it to the top and/or bottom to make it the right ratio and scale it up slightly if anyone feels like doing it.

Question - how should I export wallpapers (I'm going to try and start being a help in these IMTs): JPEG or PNG?
Anonymous
>>1704159 People generally prefer requests fulfilled with PNGs.
No compression loss or artifacts.
Also, renders (transparent backgrounds) are only possible with PNGs..

>>1704160 With Photoshop nowadays, I'm sure you won't be able to tell the difference when saving at the highest quality JPEG and PNG.
About PNG-24/8. PNG-8 is shit for the type of images in this board. Always go for 24. (I, as a scanlator, still use PNG-8 for manga though!)
Then again, using the default saving option in Photoshop is probably the most efficient way to go. Just CTRL+S, save to either PNG or JPEG. For JPEG, save at the highest quality and go for Baseline Standard, for PNG uncheck Interlace and go for Small compression. No compression on PNG usually goes up to like 3x the size of one with compression (which is troublesome since it's almost always above 2mb)
For comparison:

>>1704167 Memory is cheap these days and download speeds high.
I go with PNG-24 unless the file size runs over the limit.
Still, a maximum quality JPG is hard to distinguish from a PNG.
To see the difference, output an image as BOTH a PNG and a JPG.
Import both into a fresh drawing as stacked layers.
Set merge-mode to difference, merge them, and then run the contrast all the way up.
Differences will show as light areas.
They should be most apparent at edges. JPGs aren't as "crisp".
Decide for yourself what's acceptable.
In fact, make the same test with JPGs saved with different qualities. There's always a size vs fidelity tradeoff.

Main request:
Requesting for someone to draw in the rest of her right shoe. In addition, try to smooth out any jags (the right side of her hat is noticeably jagged) as well. [spoiler:lit]Alternatively, explain how this can be done using GIMP; I wouldn't mind learning how to do it.[/spoiler:lit]
If you are up for the challenge, make a second version where her left shoe is also drawn. You would also have to also extend the guitar cable. I do really expect anyone to do this, but it would be fantastic if you could.
This was my first time trying to render so I may have screwed up here and there. So just in case, here is a link to the original image (

Also, could someone please render Yū for me?

Though, to be fair, I really liked the ring finger (pinky looks a bit too round) on the second one. Good job both of ya, thanks.

Requesting for CC to have a bigger slice of Pizza in her mouth, if you can edit out the small piece and put a bigger slice that would be great. Also make the background a little more attracting, like maybe have her sitting in a landscape or something.

To those renderers out there Do you really just use pen tool, and then (its called feathering?) to do these?
Anonymous
>>1705705 Varies.
If the background has few color-changes but is sharply distinct from foreground, magic wand tool suffices.
And even then, a little hand clean-up with pen tool sometimes needed.
Pen tool usually gives best results, but it's slow so, if you can save time in certain areas, do so.

>>1705714 Cool, now all I need is someone to edit out that white outline, and change the background completely to a nice landscape.
Anonymous
Anonymous
>>1705705 To feather means to soften a selection.
When rendering one will usually feather 1 to 3 pixels depending on the resolution. If the picture is more complex and an overall feather won't do for the job, they will use other methods, such as the quick mask tool.
Selections are done with the magic wand tool, the quick selection tool. the lasso/polygonal lasso tool, and the pen tool. Mostly more than one tool.
The magic wand tool is fast to use when you are to remove a single/ a couple of colors and "select color range" selects too much unnecessary stuff.
It gives adept detail if the tolerance is used correctly.
Quick selection tool is used for the same reason as the magic wand tool, when the color you want to key out has any kind of texture. It works well with distinct outlines but is not that good with details.
The pen tool is the tool that will always be correct if you have the patience to use it. You can make any shape but it's a pain in the ass.
The lasso tool is a quick solution for areas where you don't need pen tool accuracy, but the others won't work.

>>1705723 >>1705705 The idea is to tell the machine THIS is foreground and THIS is background.
It's much faster if the machine can tell the difference based on color or some other property.
If it can't you have to draw a boundary point by point.
Feathering is just a way to hide the seams.
Most selection methods leave sharp edges. A pixel is selected or it's not.
Feathering conceals the obviously artificial boundary which results. (See "jaggies")
Also, real photos don't have infinite depth of field. Some things are out of focus.

This seems like a good place to ask about this. Apologies if it isn't. I'm a newbie manga cleaner looking for advice/tips, critique, etc. I'm working with Photoshop CS6.
Here's the original file I had:
http://a.pomf.se/nazshe.tif .
Apparently 4chan thinks there's a file embedded in this, so I'll just throw that one up on pomf too:
http://a.pomf.se/xltypb.png These pages have been pretty tricky to level without losing detail. I still see a fair amount of noise and I'm losing some detail already, so I'm kind of at a loss as to how to deal with this other than just going over every part of every page with a white brush which would take forever. Maybe it's only noticeable to me because I'm working on it at full resolution and no one will care once we resize it and put it on Batoto, but it's bothering me and I feel like I'm doing something wrong here.
Also, see that bubbly looking screen tone? I hate that thing. Every time I see some sort of effect like this I cringe. Zoom lines, dots or any kind of regular pattern are cake. Random object in the background are much easier to work with too. I hate these things though. Is there an easy way to work on effects like this? I typically spend an hour or more redrawing things like this whenever they pop up because I can't get them to look natural.
Sorry again if this isn't the right place for this, just seemed like a thread where people would know what they're doing and be able to help.

https://yande.re/forum/show/2007 Here's my half-hearted attempt cause it's almost 6am and I can't be bothered right now.
http://a.pomf.se/ncpalb.png This result isn't perfect, but I think you can get rid of the noise completely if you fiddle with the settings. I still haven't figured out what all of it does exactly.

>>1706189 Done! Unfortunately, image-limit reached. Will post in next thread.
But the sword is drawn all wrong.
Look at the "diamonds" on the hilt. That's wrapping to improve the look and the grip.
Imagine a line between the top and bottom points of one diamond.
That line is at a right angle (including perspective) to the length of the sword.
Now look at the guard. Sides not even vaguely parallel to previous line.
Which means something is twisted. Sloppy artwork.
