Both my Windows and Linux rice.

Yeah my win8.1 desktops are pretty default looking and I haven't really bothered with any visual style editing. I haven't seen any new desktops that really have a "wow" factor, or I've just been on /w/ for so long that I have desensitized myself to good rice. idk.

As far as 8.1 goes, you could try using Aero Glass either manually use API hooks to apply Aero Glass to the taskbar or use a program that does that anyways like Classic Shell.
It's too bad that there isn't an 8.1/8.1.1 version of Style Builder floating around the internet like there is for 7 (Apart from purchasing it).

I wouldn't say all, but most are. I usually just make small changes. For instance, in the brown and purple desktops, I used Prime VS as a base and just made the borders so that they'd be consistent on all windows, but in some of my more recent ones I've used unedited Bello VS. I really like transparency because how versatile it is, so I try to fix borders and buttons to my liking.

In my honest opinion, it sucks. You can do a better job on that bbLeanBar. Get a better font rendering. Drop the captions or just forget transparency. Browser UI elements are too big. The colors don't really match, and the lack of a constant post width on 4chan annoys the hell outta me.

If it's your first time ricing, at least you got this far, but remember there will always be room for improving.

Super lightweight so it loads fast. Supports loads of file types. Getting good codec packs (CCCP, KCP) can improve video quality. I'm pretty sure it's 'free as in free beer' software.

Mainly it's the load times that do it for me, VLC takes about 3 decades to boot up whereas MPC is open before I've thought about it.

Simple, clean and not overdone. Great choice on the background color. The only thing I don't like is how gray the clock is. It doesn't match the white icons very well at all, plus the desktop looks kind of empty. Still, would personally give it a high rating even though it is such a basic set-up.

In terms of changing and improving on it, I'm fairly stumped. The way it is now looks quite nice enough to me to warrant simply leaving it as is; at least for a while until I learn how to fiddle with my bblean a bit more.

I REALLY like this red. You managed to find that perfect h/s/l, non-cornea searing shade that is both extremely pleasing to look at and a lovely mixer for the other elements of your style. As the others have said, bblean needs a bit of sprucing but absolutely phenomenal otherwise.

Actually I found some pretty nice ones that work with windows 8.1, at-least they don't seem bugged to me.
The only reason I'm on windows 8 and not back on linux is because the programs I use.
It also feels more at home to me.

That's an impressive resolution. Some of your colours are a bit too saturated e.g the tab/url text colour. Your URL bar also needs its margins fixed. The buttons in your file explorer would look better if they were flatter as they're the only non-flat parts of your rice.

Hmm, I don't really notice anything except when the chrome and ff titlebars were flickering, but that can be fixed editing exclusions.
Also all I use of bbzero is the menu and the bar, I'd say give it a try.

Try using an updated australis css then. If you find one you like, but it's the wrong colors, just change the RGB for them to the ones you want. If you don't know at least about rgb, you need to start all over again from the basics.

I have BBleanskin running, but the title bar in ff stays transparent like that, even If I have an ahk sript to remove the titlebar and borders from all windows.
If you're curious about the start page, its just a mod of noha-ra's that I did.

Bblean skin always does that with firefox. For some reason it treats color values as alpha levels for individual colors and to my knowledge theee is no way to fix this other than to add Firefox the the exclusions list.
Also, your ahk script doesn't affect bblean skin but your visual style.

The easiest way to fix that is to exclude Firefox from interacting with bbLeanSkin. Follow the guide in nanami-tan if you don't know how to do that.

The other way I know of is enabling the menu bar in Firefox. I don't know if it'll work, since I've never used it, but if it does, you can then get rid of it with an AutoHotKey script.

Actually, it IS a really dumb question because distro really doesn't have any effect on visual elements determined by the panel, terminal, gtk theme and window manager.

Sure some shit comes prericed like Crunchbang, but you can use openbox on any distro.

Everything is in the OP. For me I aimed to install Arch eventually, so I used Antergos first to get what Linux, and using Arch feels like, using GNOME along other DEs and WMs. Once you get past the experimenting you'll likely be sticking with one at a time.

easy. just make everything as dark as your soul, choose a generic, overused pastel term scheme, use bblean with the most "90s hacker" theme you can find, install terminus and use the smallest pt your eyes will tolerate before they start bleeding, and lastly open paint, roll a die 6 times to get a hex, then set your background to a solid in that color.

Proceed to rake in mass approval.

Dunno why but the highlighting on the workspaces on the second monitor keeps tearing for some reason, when I switch from one occupied workspace to another on that screen yet not on the other. It bothers me so much despite it only being aesthetic.

OSX Yosemite is beautiful out of the box in my opinion. Also, it's easy to rice tbh although you need some tweaks as well.
