It just looks really clunky. Try adding a banner on the bottom and making your icons smaller. Also Yui looks a bit blurry to me.

So I know these threads are for phones, but I'm guessing that tablets are acceptable too, right? Are there any launchers/wallpaper apps/etc that will allow you to set up different screens for horizontal and vertical mode? I've been searching for hours now, reading about all the various different options, and nothing seems to do what I'm looking for. Heck, if I can just tell it to crop the wallpaper differently for each mode, that alone would be a phenomenal improvement. So far I've messed with Nova, Apex, ADW, and Holo with no luck.
Might add I'm using Pac-Rom; it was the only useable custom rom for my tablet I could find, and anything is better than the abomination that is touchwiz.

Sorry if I'm posting on the wrong board, considering that my theme is vidya. I saw a few other people doing it too and not getting corrected in any way, so I'm guessing it's okay. Again, my apologies if I'm wrong.

I've been using an old pirated version of WidgetLocker for almost a year and I'm finally feeling like buying it. I only pirated to have trial at it, since the developers won't give one. But there's something bothering me, the app hasn't been updated for a little more than a year. I know a lot of you use this app so anyone here knows anything about it, like if it's still handling well. Overall, any advise on buying it or not buying it?

So, here's my set-up. I set a invisible slider vertically on the anchor in a way that it seems like I'm bringing it up. I also have more home-screens but I just posted the main one because I set the wallpaper to 'non-scrolling' and it isn't the same thing if I can't make a webm to show the effect. I use a lot of gestures too after I got the Apex Pro. It wasn't really necessary but after so much time, I felt like paying my tribute to this great launcher, even more when you I get to have a few more options like icon gestures.

Now, why not a r8, m8.

Only thing bothering me, and I know you heard before but whatever, is the clock. It feels too small. One could say for you to use a bigger clock and move it up, but that feels like it would take the nice and smooth effect of the wallpapers cloud. Any reason for using that particular image? It doesn't seem like it's anime related. although when looking to the thumbnail of your image, it looks like the reflection is the symbol of 4chan.

It's not a vector. It's just a wallpaper I scaled properly (I hate it when people scale images without maintaing the aspect ratio) in photoshop that I slapped a big circle on the bottom of.

It's actually just a tiny bit smaller than the font size used in the notifications, which is sits right under. In use, it's pretty easy to see and isn't THAT small (I also don't feel like changing the widget font manually because it's a pain in the arse).

Never really noticed that.
I only really used the wall as a placeholder because I couldn't find anything to use for the lockscreen that was consistent with my theme.

True enough, the icon sizes, placement and the overall set-up could easily be on android. Now that I think of it, this is probably why liked it: it's not quickly recognizable as an iPhone. Nothing against IOS but most of the set-ups I see are too stock for me. It seems hard to rice on these things, that's why I praised your set-up.

You say the font size is almost identical to that of the notifications? So it really isn't that small, strange how it looks waay smaller here on the thread.

Not sure if the wall is anime related, but lets say it is. The icons don't really match with each other, this idea of too different icons (although I see they're from the same pack), gives a too clustered feel to it. The idea of having the clock as a floating panel can work (feels like your wall truly is a canvas), I see it's quite simple now but you said you will work on something more original. Just keep in mind that if you'll have a drop shadow on something like the clock, it's makes a huge difference in look if you have the icons with it as well.

I don't know how to implement it, but I can think of two ways to go about it. The first way would be for phones below Lollipop and somehow involving a way to alternate between launchers by not setting one by default. One could be on Nova, with futa loli incest megane grills, the other could just be on GEL, with a casual background.

The second one would be on above Lollipop and as the anon said in the previous thread, somehow switching between profiles automatically, and of that's not possible, just giving them the phone in guest mode. Try checking XDA for something that might work.

No launchers I know of but with tasker you may be able to set up something that will change the wallpaper when the orientation changes.

Looking for some feedback on an idea for a MegaMan Themed Rice. I was thinking to take this wallpaper over to the Image Modification Thread to see if they can remove the robotmasters and text besides the Man (Tried Resizing the sprite rip of the screen but it looked horrible). Then in each of the 8 spots place an icon and have the text read GoogleMan Call/PhoneMan ect. Then make a custom clock widget and replace the battery notification with the megaman life bar. Thoughts?

I don't have anything against minimalism, my current rice is based on it, and yes, it is way better than a desktop filled with apps. But after 109 threads and in nearly every one there's 5 apps, a girl, and a clock, it gets fucking lame.

So fixed it up a little bit. Pushed the icons and the clock as close together as I could. Not too sure how I can make them get any closer, sadly.
Also cleaned up the wallpaper, getting rid of the text.

Okay, so the reason they were rectangular was because I set the number of rows in Nova to 7, which cut them a bit but all the icons were touching and it looked nice in that sense. If I set it to 6 then the icons are complete squares but there's a little space in between them all and it gets rid of the icon bar I had going on.

What you can do for the layout though is move the picture slightly up so that slight blue line on the bottom of the icons disappears. Maybe center the clock too? Any specific reason you decided to left align it?

Actually the wallpaper takes up the whole screen, that blue bar on the bottom is a part of it, but I can easily just add a white bar right where the gap is to make it look better, didn't even think of doing anything like that. Thanks!

Great effect with icons in a rainbow order. Feels really fresh and different from what you see here. Glad you came across that gap between the clock and the icons, it was really annoying. Amazing how a tiny gap like that is worse looking than a big gap.

I have this issue with Apex as well, things like icons or widgets can get hidden behind it right? Also, it's not only with the homescreen, it happens with the drawer too. Icons and their names get cut by the navigation bar, I was only able to "fix" it by changing the grid to less rows and columns (pic related).

It's seems Apex is treating our phones with on-screen navigation buttons like they're phones with these buttons outside the screen, like this one >>1741072

I've sent an e-mail to them regarding the issue but feel free to do so too, you could even use the image I posted. I forgot to send them something like this to better explain the problem. The more people telling them, the better.

Wow, that was quick. Took roughly 15 minutes to get Nova and set up my homescreen the exact same way I had it before using Apex. I highly recommend you do this as well instead of continuing to bother with Apex if you too find that issue bothersome. After all, since Nova is so very similar I doubt you'd miss Apex.

This. I was using Apex before too but my widgets kept crashing so I migrated. Only thing you might miss is being able to have icons scaled to different sizes in the drawer vs homescreen. Apart from that, everything else is pretty much the same, if not better in Nova.

Also. I have Apex Pro (after using the free one for so long, I decided to pay some tribute in exchange for more options) and I'm already too used to the hole (icon)gestures and transitions effects overall. Just hoping they will fix it and even if the never do for some reason, I don't plan on getting another phone with on-screen navigation buttons anyway. You know, because of the space they take from your screen.

Looks great, but there are a couple of things I'd change. First of all, that greyish icon bar you've got doesn't really go well with the rest of the set-up. It's simplicity and placement is fine but the color would match better if it had a darker tone. Both the characters' clothing as well as the navigation bar would match a darker grey or even a black tone far better.

As for the icons I think you made a good choice, but maybe white icons would look better? I know they wouldn't match the set-up quite as well color-wise but red on grey almost never looks any better. At least try it. It will probably give a cleaner look overall and worst case scenario you can always just switch back.

The last thing I'd change is the weather, day and dawn/dusk thing on the top. I know it's fun to use a lot of stuff in your set-up, but you probably don't need any of that info anyway and removing it would give a less cluttered impression. And, if you do this, you could move the rest of the set-up slightly upward to get rid of the then empty space on the top.

The lock screen looks amazing. You really managed to make it look great. The only thing I'd change is I'd recolor the yellow phone icon on the bottom to white as well. That way it would match the rest of the set-up nicely - something it doesn't currently do. Oh, and don't forget to either use english only on your homescreen and lockscreen or only that other language you currenly have on your lockscreen. The way you are mixing both right now bothers me somewhat.

I'm picky with giving high ratings, but I think you have the potential of turning your set-up into a 9/10. (I never give 10/10s.) I don't think I've ever seen a first try I've found as well rounded and nicely composed as yours before. Well done.

I thought about my suggestion where I pointed out how it might look better without the text stuff on the top of your set-up and came up with an alternative to just removing it. This is probably how I would solve the problem with the stray text instead. I think this way it looks more organized and the text gets more clearly separated from the characters.

Again, this is just what I would do to make the text look less out of place, but I figured I might as well share the idea.

I changed the icons back to white. I wasn't sure originally if it'd be better than red, so I picked red since the white ones stood out so much. I also changed the banner colour a bit.
I'll try to find a more creative way to put in the dawn/dusk on the left screen, but the info is useful for me (knowing when it's dangerous to go out, also knowing when the sun is out exactly for winterblues).
Set phone to english for the lockscreen, not sure if I can change the small phone icon to white because it's the default lockscreen for a Sony phone. I will get into lockscreen ricing one day.
If more people gave feedback like you this board would be a better place I think

So far this is the closest I've gotten. If there wasn't a 2 second delay it would be perfect. I haven't gotten live wallpapers working yet though. You have to use static images.

When ever apex or nova launcher is opened (unlocked to) it sets an image as the wallpaper. I don't know how to make it work without that lag between unlocking and setting the image though Ideally you would only see the change when you open the loli rice. That way is totally hidden. Live wallpapers don't work yet either because they are treated as if they are apps not images. All my attempts at those so far force you into a loop setting the wallpaper over and over.

Thanks man. Im honestly hitting a wall with progress. The only thing I can think of left to do is attempt making another task for screen off/on or screen lock that will reset the wallpaper to the work safe wall.

So far its looking like there will always be a delay going from normal to loli but I'm looking to find a way to at least completely mask the loli one.

Live wallpapers are also still a challenge. I need to try and get some kind of counter set up so it only fires once after a condition but I'm struggling to get tasker set up for that.

Yes. That way you can have more than one layout for icons and widgets. The launcher used is also the trigger for each event. I don't know of any other way to keep up with which wall you want shown that works with tasker's "syntax".

It doesn't have to be apex and nova though. You can use any two launchers you want. If that's still an issue than feel feel free to find your own solution.

I disabled a bunch of the Verizon and amazon apps. Right now I'm running a bunch of other low resource 3rd party apps instead of the stock ones. Go locker is probably the most bloated and slowest locker out there so that is one reason your phone is sluggish.

That app drawer icon doesn't match... Would either match it or get rid of it and use swipe up gesture for app drawer. Fair enough, I only use it because I'm too lazy to learn Android and whip something up. I disabled everything I could too, but it didn't feel like enough. Probably just autism.

Anyways whipped this up really fast because I was bored and needed to reassociate myself with Windows.
It's pretty much only aesthetic, repetitive and/or unuseful apps are on the homescreen but they have neat icons so why not.
Obviously doesn't match or anything, just an hour of fucking around.

I can't offer too much advice on your icons (I'm personally not a fan of rounded nor square icons), but I can tell you that you can unlock your phone without a slider widget.

I have Auto Hide Soft Keys and by playing with some widget locker settings, I only need to double-tap where my home button is. One to make my home button visible, and tap to actually use it.

The downside though, is that you sacrifice security and unless you play with the Auto Hide Key shortcuts, it'll take you directly to your homescreen. I normally drag up to go into my recent apps (the multi-task/task manager) to go back to an app from the lockscreen.

TL;DR yes you can with auto-hide keys and widget locker at the cost of security

Well the problem with using Nova's transparent navigation is that it isn't truly transparent, it leaves a slight shadow that bothers me when set onto a flat wallpaper. Making a solid dark grey bar was my way of defeating that.

I would suggest recoloring the navigation bar to a grey tone darker than the one you are using on the rest of the set-up but one that is still brighter than the black you're using right now. It would probably look better but still show it is a special area of the home screen.

Well, it's not black. It's 0b0b0b, a very dark grey. It's dark enough to contrast from the rest of the homescreen and be its own element.

Just removing everything on the screen doesn't make it a good home.
All you've pretty much done is strip the usability of the home screen along with it being kind of ugly because of the icons. Also, there's nothing connecting the parts together. The icons have nothing to do with the wallpaper, etc.

The icons may be "clear" but they are still obscuring the image. Those bubbles around them are what's in the way. If you don't even want icons, you can use hotspots, but a setup like that is extremely hard to pull off.

That's as transparent as the icons' background. I only made the clock's blackground pitch black because of the stupid navigation buttons. I haven't tried any app that changes it, and if it requires root, I can't really root the Z3 without unlocking the bootloader and thus losing Sony proprietary stuff I'd rather not.

I can make the onscreen buttons have a gradient (transparent to black) with Nova Launcher, or black, like it is by default. If you know of any free app that changes the background color (with support for alpha/transparency) for the Navigation bar, please let me know.

If that's your case, I would highly suggest zooper widgets. It takes a little bit of time to learn but it gives you complete control over customizing and making your own widgets. This lets you change fonts, color, transparency, etc for your widgets without root

Difficult to say, the widget you're already using seems to fit nicely for the space you have. Try checking out the widgets from apps like Eye In The Sky or 1Weather. They have a lot of configurable widgets.

Also, what's that widget for the music you have there?

So I went to a hip Japanese hair salon today....

Honestly the haircut was amazing and worth every penny.

But my phone rang midway through. I silenced my ring tone (nano desu) and said "Gomenesai". My hair dresser Asuke complimented my spice and wolf lock screen.

He giggled a bit though and said something in Japanese to the female assistant sweeping up hair.

I think they judged me because of my Japanese phone theme.

Normally I ignore the ignorant uncultured gaijins when they criticize me... But this hurt.

It felt like my people had made a totally unfair judgment about me.

Idk I'm just venting right now. I went back to using the stock KitKat theme, but I might do a restore.

Or build up a new theme.

Not in the tabs you have open, but if you open a brand new tab.
If I refresh, my theme and settings are fine.

I tweaked my settings a bit more and removed all my icons from every page.

The dock is hidden, swipe on the dock to reveal. Swipe up for chrome.

Can't find a way to remove the three buttons on the bottom yet, but time will tell.

Took me far longer than I expected to come up with a layout that worked with this image.

I'm still not happy with the lock screen and will probably change it somehow. Not quite sure what I'll do with it though besides making the slider a circle to fit the theme, so any ideas would be nice.

I'd recommend a few things. If you want to keep the icons, make some sort of banner. Personally, I don't think the icons fit, so I would just scrap the icon pack altogether and get another. A drop shadow would make Maki stand out more. (I hope that's Maki and not someone else. I'm just assuming from the red hair and purple eyes.) If your launcher allows it, remove the gradient from the nav bar and the status bar. Also, don't be afraid to try another launcher.

I'll try modifying the wallpaper a bit then, thanks. And yes, it it Maki.
On a side note, is there a way do disable the gradient? I'm using Nova Launcher and don't have root/unlocked bootloader.

I don't really know. I could never do it with Trebuchet, SmartLauncher, LauncherPro, or Nova on my phone, but I've seen others do it with theirs.

Another option is just hiding it all, which is what I do. Nova should let you hide the status bar, and AutoHideSoftKeys will hide the nav bar until you trigger it.

Does anyone know how to swap bitmaps on a Zooper widget? I'm making a music widget with Zooper and MU and I want to make a Play/Pause button that switches between the two based on whether or not music is playing. Last time I made it using the #TMU_ISPLAYING# conditional and I was able to swap the images somehow, but I forgot how I did it and I don't have it anymore. I'm looking around and people are saying to just make two bitmaps and have either of them be transparent at a given time, but I don't think that's what I did last time and I feel like I'd run into some double-tap issues if I did it that way. Any ideas?

If you mean the bottom half, it's not a gradient. I think it's #222222 across the board.

If by "generic Costco olive oil" you mean Kirkland olive oil that is actually one of the best EVOO you can get because they don't dilute the olive oil with soy/vegetable oil like most Italian brands do.
