Post your vector requests and recently done vectors here.
>Previous thread → >>1807419 READ THE OP BEFORE POSTING!
>Before requesting, here are some tips: – Request an image ONCE per thread. Do not bump or second - once is enough.
– Check the lists below to see if your request has already been previously fulfilled.
– All requests are welcome, within reason, but remember:
– The poorer the quality of an image (in resolution and drawing ability), the less likely it will be picked up. The more detail seen and higher the resolution, the better.
– Full-body images preferred. Images cut off on 3 or more sides are very unlikely to be picked up due to their limited usage; keep this in mind when finding an image to request. (Hair or skirt edges that are barely cut off don't usually count)
– Requests for removing the background from an image (called a RENDER) and resizing requests should go to the IMT threads.
– Refrain from using renders for requests. Try to find the original non-rendered image; it is easier for vectorists to work with.
– Note: Overly complicated images are unlikely to be picked up due to their nature. IF your request is taken, please have patience.

>>1813727 So actually, I realized two things. If you're not sick of working on it - the bulges at the top of her head on either side (will upload edit with them circled in red) are actually supposed to be grey pieces of armor I think. With that in mind, the second edit would be concerning that small gap between her left hand and the bit of helmet (circled in blue). It seems like it would then not be just air there - it doesn't look like her hair would go there, so perhaps it should be an extension of her helmet? The color gray is kind of shown in the earlier linked picture.

As for what happened:
The surgery fixes my chronic shoulder dislocation, my shoulder was never right to begin with, something about a part in my socket not being big enough to wrap around the ball of my bone.
They cut off some bone in 1 spot of my shoulder, moved it to the cup area, added 2 screws to keep it in place, and moved some tendons to compensate for the stretching they had at that point, which was a lot.

As someone new to this, how is my line consistency? It is my biggest worry right now I believe, so I want to know if I need to pay more attention on that.
JPGC
>>1816809 It is fairly inconsistent, and many of the tips are oddly joined. Got the original? I can show you how I would do it in a couple areas.
Anonymous
>>1816810 Hmm, I see.
Here is the original.
JPGC
>>1816815 Something like this. You need to make sure you keep the tips of all the hair consistent between each other. Many of your tips begin very fat, get thin in the middle, and then fat at the ends. You want the tips to start thin, and then the middle and endpoints get larger gradually. It is a good idea to pick thicknesses for areas of the image, such as hair, skin, clothes etc. and make sure the thicknesses within each area stay consistent with each other. Always be reference back to other lines in that area and making sure it matches, or is at least close to that thickness. You also need to use less nodes. The more nodes you place, the harder it is to control thickness, as well as making it difficult to smooth a line, especially in hair.
I'll go ahead and post the file to make it easier to see node placement:
https://mega.co.nz/#!ZhIyiZhR!Wqhjbi25p2C_4o-zEY6NO3ShTFq4Fj9GcTmnUvAnOJI It is pretty much inevitable that your first few vectors won't be very good. As much as I explain or show through an image, it really doesn't click until you've done it over and over again.

Quick question - how do you usually do these kinds of shapes with two sharp nodes? I don't want the shape to become too thin before it has crossed the other shape to make the hair tip. Would you add a pair of nodes in the middle, or try to adjust the handles to get the shape you want?
JPGC
Quoted By:
>>1816967 Keep the handles parallel and see if you need to. You only need to add a pair of nodes in the middle if the end point handles are spreading too far out to keep the shape. I don't think you will need to in this case, given its length.
Derping is in my nature.
>>1816967 >>1816967 From what I can see: you have yor "long handles" in the wrong place - the longer handles should be on the OUTSIDE of a curve, with your smaller ones being on the INSIDE of the curve.

It is coupled with taking many hours to do, so if you have no patience, you're wasting your time. Like you said, it is harder than you thought. There is a reason there are very few people who do it, at least correctly.
Derpimus noodle
>>1818548 Some things to help you with the "v"s:
* Before you even start tracing, look at what hair should be the "over" and what part should be the "under" I have given examples using the "v" method as the basis, but haven't actually traced it.
* Make sure your nodes are parallel to one another - note: you CAN vary the distances from them with no worries, so your inner levers might not be as long as your outer levers, if it helps shape your curves better.
* Putting a "V" under another means it terminates as a parallel pair of lines, not a single point.
* If you're having troubles discerning where one "V" should supercede another, look at the hair. If it looks like it overlaps, it's a "top" if it is smaller, it's a "bottom" unless it's something like a cowlick/ahoge.
* If worse comes to worst: find the part in the hair, and use that to separate the hair into sections. Best example is in this image: the little odd "clip" in her hair above her left (our right) eye a prime example of a part, and should be used to kep your "tops" and "bottoms" from colliding with two "tops" or two "bottoms"
Hope this helps...

Derp+herp=3.14159
Quoted By:
>>1819350 Your line consistency is off. The lines for the hair should be a consistent thickness.
This doesnt' mean that the thickness throughout should be uniform - it means that if you have thick lines for your sweater, they all should be thick for the sweater. Consistency should be a general rule in vectors, because, even though a technique works with pencils, pens, other similar media tools, it does not always translate to a vector well.
For the lolipop, I'd just do multiple layers of the colors, and nix the blur. The better option, if you have illustrator, is to use gradient meshes with the different color levels.
Derp+herp=3.14159
Quoted By:
>>1819350 Now, for the coloring: yes, you do, in essence, retrace what you have done, to a degree, but via an "outline" and not every single line you made.
Example: you'd use the pen tool to make a shape in a new layer UNDER your lines layer that would be for the light part of the hair., in all the places there is hair.
You would then, on top of THAT layer, put another one that traces all the DARK AREAS ONLY You'd then do the same for the light areas.
This will make it so you can change the colors easier, until you get used to how the lines work.
Depending on how complex the layering goes: I'll end up with either four layers (lines, eyes, shadow/hilights and main color) or more, depending on how things stack, if something goes over one thing and under another, etc.
Good luck.

daul, I've asked you question while I was here, the tutorial is amazing, I'm getting really into it. I have a question tho, I know that you use the point themselves to place the lines exactly where you want, but why don't you show that you can click on the line itself inbetween two anchor points to make them both move at the same time? Am I missing something? Both move, you can keep both of them looking smooth and everything. Anyone can answer, it's just that it's his tutorial. I just don't see the negative effect when you're adjusting.
daul
>>1821945 Are you using Inkscape or Illustrator?
Inkscape works a little better in that regard I think
In Illustrator old versions did not let you do that so the way I'm doing it is based off of habit, also if you want curved lines you have to put in adjustment bars already for the click in between thing to work well so I find that adjusting the bars individually to give more control so thats why I do it that way.
But honestly I don't know everything and if you find a way thats faster and still looks good go for it.
I'm also going pretty slow since I'm explaining what I'm doing and trying to show it so my normal pace is a lot faster.

>>1821989 Red-green colorblind like 99% of the colorblind. Not much to be said here.
I am starting the coloring tutorial tomorrow. I took my sweet ass time, it took me around 5 hours doing the tutorial from daul. The thing is, I have never done anything close to "art" in my life and never used any of the photoshop project. So I was trying to find everything there was to do with the pen tool and even practiced by removing it entirely/doing it again. It's actually very fun.

Quoted By:
>>1822009 Something to help you improve your linework:
Make circles and eggs using just "two points" (actually three, because of the closing point, but only two are visible.)
Make these circles and eggs with the points at north/south, northeast/southwest, etc. till you go through all the compass points. Reason why is, even though a lot of ther points might repeat, it's where your starting node is placed, which makes your perspective on the image different.
Once you do that several times, you should have a better feel of the tool.
Hope that helps.

I really liked the idea of coloring an uncolored image, so I started on one. Since I've been working full-time this summer, I picked a simple image that I might be able to finish before the contest is over. If I do, I'll submit it to the contest so that there are more entries. I definitely don't have time to do some of the intricate images you guys are doing, which are looking great, by the way.

I'm trying to color by using the eyedropper tool over a form I did when it's empty (like the [none] color) but then it only take whatever my stroke color is, and not my color under the colorless form. Daul does it exactly like that in his tutorial, could it be that it's changed in the more recent version? Or am I just... not doing something?

How should i go about doing the gloves in pic related?
JPGC
>>1823620 I would leave them smooth if it were up to me. You can make them more wrinkled by hand if you want by first making each fill with as little nodes as possible, and then arbitrarily adding pairs of nodes in between and moving them in opposite directions of each other to create a wave effect. You can also use the Wrinkle tool in Illustrator if you want a quicker way to do it, but it will look a lot messier. I don't recommend doing either of these options until you've made all the fills and made sure they were consistent with each other, because adjusting the thickness after either of those effects will be much more difficult.
Anonymous
>>1823632 The problem with leaving them smooth is they no longer look like warm, fuzzy gloves and end up looking like leather or something, completely changing the artist's intent.
