I was mostly referring to the gradient layer that goes over Rei's figure. Not the actual gradient layer, but how to overlay a gradient over Rei's outline.

There are some good ideas here, but picture quality is pretty low on a lot of them. You can't just enlarge jpgs without touching them up.
