Here's the platinum take:
First, we optimize transport to the point where global shipping is as efficient and cheap as possible.
Secondly, we move all of mankind into one relatively large piece of land with relatively diverse terrain. Say all or part of Russia or the US for example. This area will serve as the habitation for basically all of mankind.
Thirdly, we research how to mitigate climate change side-effects in this very specific area.
Fourthly, we make the rest of earth serve as a source of resources, nothing more. Meaning we don't need to give a shit about climate change or pollution in those areas. Temporary habitation will be available for the workers in these areas while the rest of humanity remain on this original habitated piece of land.
This way we can focus all of earth's resources on this limited peace of land without having to worry about climate change. Meaning, virtual solarpunk without actually having to reach post-scarcity or worry about climate change. 98% of earth's resources focused onto this limited piece of land means bigger cooler fucking structures that would not be economically or physically viable anywhere else. This will be available while not restricting those who want to to move out into less habitated areas for a more lowkey environment.
