For entertainment, do an image search for "andre norton book cover art" She wrote a lot of fantasy, but mostly her sci fi novels turn up. She wrote an enormous library of work in the 1950s & 1960s (and didn't stop there).
Anyway, as one of the first female science fiction authors, once her work took off it really took off around the world and there are thousands of variations on her hundreds of novels. There's an enormous body of retro/1950s themed art.
Unfortunately, very little of it is quality enough for wallpapers. But, a lot of it is "good enough" to enjoy.
Pic related (also published as "Daybreak 2250 A.D."), one of the quintessential post-Apocalypse sci fi novels ever penned. Pretty cheesy by today's standards, but still a good read and not too limited by 1950s-era understanding of nuclear war. Due to the era she was writing in, Norton tends to get a bit preachy and lecture-ie in the morality tales of her work, but mostly it's harmless and usually not too heavy-handed to the overall enjoyment.
