https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On_the_Beach_%28novel%29Another one so famous that it's only obscure today by its age. Book is a good bit different from the movie. I'm a book person (usually) so I'd rather the book. It's pretty severely dated, being nearly 60 years old. Worth the read for the style of the time, and it captures the essence of the Cold War impending doom. A good study in how it captures a lot of cultural mindset from the time the work was produced, intentionally and otherwise. I also liked it since the book is from a non-American perspective, which isn't all that common from the time period. The movie is pretty heavily Americanized, as well as more romanticized through a Hollywood filter, which turned me off despite its cinematic merits.
