Their sound came from the recent shillwve boom that fused with trap. They call it "cloud rap" or "trillwave", it's not vaporwave, but obviously there's been exchange between them, like any other genre. They jumped on the shallow meme aesthetic, infused it with their generation's symbols, i.e. N64, pokémon and all that. And then that got muddled back into the vaporwave sphere of visuals again, and the evidence can be seen in threads like these every day.
