The dependency trash is also a cultural issue more than anything since you could always just add all your dependencies in a binary tarball, but nobody does that because the Linux crowd will kvetch. Linux users are always so quick to laugh at Windows and Mac for not being modular while tearing each other down for actually using different modules.
