I also have another couple of tips for making these (especially super simple ones like this one with a single-color background).
After using the content-aware crop tool, it can be really helpful to add a levels layer (in Photoshop) and pull the leftmost slider almost all the way to the right. You'll easily be able to spot the inconsistencies that way while you smooth out the background. Obviously, delete the layer before saving.
Another more minor thing is that when you use a content-aware healing brush, you need to push it around probably a little more than you'd think without releasing your mouse button. It's not like the clone stamp.
