It always brings a tear to my eye when I think about why we're alone in the universe. Humanity is the greatest thing we know to exist, yet we're stranded on an insignificant, immeasurably small speck in the universe, wasting our talents and resources.
Reason and statistics tells us that the existence of other intelligent life is almost certain. But it also tells us that they're likely to be completely unrelatable and disinterested in us - if we can even find them, which we probably never will.
Yet despite knowing all this, one of my greatest hopes for humanity is to find other life out there. Not to fight, not to simply document their existence, but to find another species out there capable of overlooking our flaws and extending a hand of friendship so that we may explore the wonders of the multiverse together.
