This shit is no joke. Even in my genre, you can easily spot a game where the dev stopped caring. But it doesn't come risk free, and the time I'm spending tweaking every texture coordinate or model vertex is time I would have wasted playing games I don't find fun or fulfilling anymore.
That's the key though, isn't it? Above every other consideration, it must be fun. If the game is not fun to play, it's not worth any of my 'precious' time at all.
