Based on Northern European folklore which primarily locates the Wild Hunt around Scandinavia and Britain for the last 1600 years or so though sightings of it had been seen in Germany,France and Spain. The story is that its an omen of great chaos possible war or disease when an army of ghostly riders race across the sky, in Scandinavia the spirits are elves. It can also kill you or steal you in your sleep and take you to the fairy dimension if you witnessed it. Different names for it in each country and the leader of the hunt also changes based on the nation that viewed it.
The most recent recorded sighting of it in 1938 just after the Anschluss. A little spooky but likely a coincidence.
