You do not know who accepted it, you show forward the sin of pride to pass judgement on them, and it seems sensible that those who studied the order of the world for meaning (some who even predicted the coming of Christ - e.g., delphic oracles & Plato's predicted "righteous man" who would be crucified - book 2 of the Republic) would more readily accept it, since they sought Truth and Wisdom and Christ is both.
