I made everything in Zooper, then used swipe gestures in nova to open a Pop-up Widget, which allows me to show and hide Zooper widgets from the edge of the screen. In this case, the app menu and media widget.
The only thing I needed root to do was hide the navbar, but if you have a Samsung or something, that won't even matter.
