Fun fact: The people who lived around Shasta and to the north several thousand years ago all revered the mountains as extremely powerful and spiritual entities. At one point, legend tells that a large tribe split in half, one part staying to worship at Mt Shasta, the others moving north to Mt. Mazama. The people who stayed at Shasta witnessed the other tribe get utterly destroyed with fire, and their mountain was completely destroyed. You've probably heard of Mt. Mazama before... except now it's called Crater Lake. It's pretty well established now that the legend is based in fact: there were people living around the mountain when it erupted and collapsed, and the story of that even lived on several thousand years.
That's pretty much as close to "winning" as a mountain can get.
