I think most of the pictures have a feeling of isolation to them. To me the vibe is just capturing the sort of thing you might see or experience every day (if you happen to live near where they are taken) but you might not appreciate the simple beauty of the moment until you see it captured in photo form.
Technically speaking, most of them are film photographs and so they have certain amount of "grain." A large camera aperture (and so a small depth-of-field) also contributes to the tasteful "blur" in many of the pictures.
