The hover is a linear translation from the old static one, so maybe it will need to be iterated on. I'll live with it for a bit and see. Same with the waves, I'm not too bothered with their intensity/size and I don't find it distracting really. I don't spend a whole lot of time looking at the homepage in regular use but maybe over time it will stand out more as a distraction.
