This was my old text thing that I had going on in various forms since a bit after I got the first Nexus 7 (it's on the original moto g, here).
I liked it, but it was a bit painful to maintain, and it grew out of its original purpose as Android developed. It wasn't anywhere nearly as cumbersome as it seemed in practice (maximum two quick taps for anything, individual screens looked okay).
