Serious question to all.
How does one define the absolutely essential on a desktop?
Being a windows fag, having to open folders to navigate to what I want to open is no different to having a command shell on a linux platform always open to achieve the same thing, so I won't be targeting that, but othr things such as little widgets for date, time, weather, current news, RSS/imageboard feeds, picture slideshows, batterylife, torrent stats, etc.
Some have them, some don't. Is this purely a personal thing, eg. personal taste or is it dependant on what someone expects their computer to for them in their life?
Personally, I like having an extremely minimal setup; taskbar with a couple most used programs, clock, and a few system icons.
What is it for people that makes them want to have more?
