Well, it all started about a year ago. I had one of those "fuck this bullshit" moments when I realize I didn't want to be a fat fuck any more and reach my dream job, which is serving in the Air Force. So from that moment on I worked hard to lose the weight, started at 275Lb and I'm all the way down to 229Lb. Dieting, exercising, and even going to the gym doing weight lifting. After this I decided it was time to talk to a recruiter and I asked him about reserve officers training course (ROTC). For those who might not know this but ROTC is pretty much the military way of helping pay for your college education while also training you to be a model officers for the military branch of your choosing.Think of it as they pay your bill and to repay them you give them your service. The recruiter told me I would have to first apply to the college or university of my choosing to get the ball rolling and this is when the kicker comes in.
After doing what he told me, I applied to Western Michigan university and I got accepted. However, emailing the recruiter he informed me I would be nominated for the ROTC scholarship after they evaluate my performance inside the courses. meaning I would have to pay out of pocket or with financial aid for the first semester or year until they nominate me for the scholarship. I cant handle the thought of racking up student debt in my name I made it this far in my college education without any debt, but this is completely different.
Should I risk taking out a student loan and pray that I get nominated within the first semester? Should I say to hell with it and just go enlisted and get my degree on the side?
These questions have been running through my head all day and it is seriously stressing me out. Thanks for listening /wg/ and thanks
