>>7614035I've personally set people to play Portal 2 and they got into the story no problem without ever playing the original. They explain everything very well. I'd say Portal 2 is a must, but Portal 1 would be good if you cared deeply about story or really wanted more when you were done. I can't reccomend Portal 2 enough. 1 is good for story, but they tend to exhaust you with the same test elements over and over. In Portal 2, they introduce a new testing element every time the last one gets stale, making it a much more dynamic puzzle game.
Tldr: Play portal 2. Portal 1 optional.
