As a political leader he ruled inefficiently through fear and a bloated bureaucracy, led by feuding underlings all arguably following the shots of Bormann rather than the Fuhrer and as a military leader he was a disaster for the Wehrmacht, where pretty much every time he would get personally involved in the running of the war it led to German defeat on the field and ultimately the war.
But then again, I don't know much about history. How was Hitler a great leader? Because of Goebbels successful cult of personality making or because of the efficiency of the Gestapo when it came to rolling up at 5 in the morning to come pick you up for accidentally questioning the wisdom of burning books?
