Sounds like you were lesser compared to him, I'd ask in what ways but it actually doesn't matter because there's ten thousands of ways to lose. If that's true, all you really need to do is improve yourself in anything that would also be productive. Working out gets you strong, eating right gets you health, managing your money gets prevents debt and from living paycheck to paycheck, getting good at your job makes you more money, learning electrical means you'll never need an electrician. Stuff like that makes the women wet. It also means that playing vidya is only sexy when it makes money, not because females are gold diggers, some are and it seems to be a growing number, but because babies are very resource intense. Time and Money.
side note: cleaning up my own diet got rid of an anxiety I never knew I had. Exercise never gave me the confidence that I was promised but it did make me happier.
