I think I finally got this to how I want it to feel. The left is the lockscreen.
I based it off of a theme that in turn was based around the "Okay glass..." premise. You tap the "Google..." button and it brings up that little menu. Also, the background doesn't scroll in order to give it a feeling of the two menus being kind of back-end things, and not part of the main user experience.
