As much bad as the ending was, they had to bunker and take it in the chin, defending it till the end. You'll notice that as ME games progress, Mac Walters takes over more and more fo writing, while Drew Karpyshyn, who wrote most of the story and novels, has less and less credit and after some time leaves the development team. Also - most of ME3 story is segregated and divided into different writers, different ones wrote Rannoch plot etc. For worse, Walters had the main plot do write and oh how he did fuck it up. But they had to make it cannon so nobody was to blame and it was all our (players) fault that we don't take it in the ass as we should. Oh well. I'd rather see guy who wrote Tuchanka or Rannoch make the rest, because those were very well made segments.
