One day I decided I'd grit my teeth and get through it. After the first chapter it really is a fantastic game that only gets better. The second game is incredible and well worth the play. But, you should at least give the first game a go so that you get the story. The Witcher 3 is my most anticipated game of the year. Give it a try at least, you might like it.
