Just keeping currency is expensive as fuck, and flying anything needing ratings (complex, high performance, tail dragger, sea/float plane) just adds to the cost of flying... MEL is twice the cost per hour (at least in my area) and with fuel at $4-$5 a gallon, doubles the cost as well.
It's not a cheap hobby, and where I am there's not many options for renting anything that isn't a 172S (although a new club has an S-20 and S-22, but per-hour dry cost is over $200).
Turbo Prop would be fun, but the area I fly out of is pretty... Ancient. Lots of old privately owned planes on the tarmac (some I don't think have moved in over 20 years), but not much in the way of rentals or clubs.
Really... I would just love having a Super Cub jointly owned with my brother in law rather than having to rent. Something nice about just showing up to the airport and getting in your own plane.
