Doesn't matter what camera you use, your iPhone or hell even a disposable camera if you haven't got a smart phone.
I would also recommend posting your results on /p/. You WILL get the shit kicked out of you for the first 50 times you post, but you will slowly learn everything you need from it, I promise. It's like a baptism by fire.
There's also tonnes of resources, reading materials and people who will answer any questions you have - however stupid the questions may seem.
