It was said that a man's psyche can be heavily influenced by his relationship with mother. What we call "influence" in his later life is the anima projection. This relationship can either be positive or negative, but the influence it has can't be defined by such categories alone, nor does it coincide with the type of relationship you had.
The anima can manifest itself in different forms. For example, this anima can be an ideal of a woman in man's mind, This ideal can be projected on a person, hence why we encounter "love at first sight" from time to time, consciously labelling it as madness. Positive influence can result in such an unusual anima as inability to accept the imperfections of the world and attempts to rationalize and verbalize your struggle, hence why we often hear those pseudo-intellectual ramblings of irrationality from suicidal people. Anima projection often comes directly from the idea of a mother in man's mind. In other words, men seek motherly comfort in other women, often failing at guidance and leadership, since they themselves are taking up the role of a woman in their relationship. The image of comfortable female bosom is what the man is seeking for, trying to run away from the realities of his miserable existence, find motherly love, someone to care, and thus satisfy his longing for this projected anima. My anima manifested itself both in unability to accept the world and longing for motherly care in the image of another woman. What is longing for death? Longing for nothingness, as comfortable as female bosom, the wish to escape the imperfections of reality by ceasing to exist and thus losing the ability to suffer and feel. Is it another form of anima projection? Maybe. Nothingness is similar to safety of the womb, you are not diving into something new, you are returning to something you've already been: nothing. However, anima projection and longing for happiness are useless and meaningless in the grand scale of things, think rationally.
