The group that this symbol is from is the Blackhands, who are an organized crime gang named after an extremely deadly serpent that is hunted because it eats gems...I think. Or for its venom... I genuinely can't remember. Either way, when bitten, it desecrates the flesh around the bite rapidly, causing it to turn black... and it frequently bites people in the hand. So, Blackhands.
The leader of their group survived Blackhand bite when he was young, though not without loosing use of most of his hand. Its also black now... cause thats what happens. The group then took the name, because aside from being a cool name for a crime syndicate, it showed loyalty to their leader.
