Columbus (Benning), Augusta (Gordon), Warner Robins (Robins), Valdosta (Moody) are only acceptable if you're military or have friends/family/dependents/a career in the .mil industrial complex. Warner Robins got a Buc-ee's and thinks they're suddenly on some cosmopolitan shit. It's a small town with small town people who insist they're not small town, who's local social scene is just handful of shitty bars. If you tell them this they get butthurt but won't disagree with you. This sentiment goes double for Augusta.
Athens between Atlanta and Augusta or Savannah is just a college town. If college town things interest you, that's your safest bet.

Source: I grew up in the parts of Georgia that still had segregated proms in the mid-2000's, if you drive slow enough today will still hear banjos, but have since traveled to more than a dozen other countries and lived all over Georgia and the rest of the US in the last 20+ years. I'm never unhappy to come back to Atlanta and wish you the best.
