For styles it really just depends on you, I have gone through countless screen changes and clock widgets and wallpapers, right now I have one I really like.

Personally, I limit it to one page and just a few app icons, I have one page for my calendar agenda widget that is completely transparent, so I am kinda breaking my own rule. I don't like having a dock, too busy and looks bad to me. You obviously know about icon labels and not having 2 clocks. I started out slow, took me a few months coming from an iPhone to realize all the tools I had, besides customizing my home screen. In that department, I recommend Xposed it basically lets you have custom ROMs and is pretty cool, you can do a bunch of things with it. You should look around and find a nice icon pack you like (pic related) cont.
