Beyond that it needs to be 16:9 (as already mentioned). You can crop some space off the sides if necessary to make it look good. And you obviously are going to have to crop the top and/or bottom to make it 16:9 (I'd prefer you not add any space to the sides to get 16:9 proportions). I'd also prefer a standard desktop resolution of some size or another. 1600x900 is fine, as is 1920x1080 (I figure resizing it any larger will probably look like shit).
Basically as long as it doesn't look like shit I can live with it lol.
