The easiest way to get started is to get a program called Processing (the latest version is a bit unstable so I'm running 2.2.1), and then write or get a pixel sorting script. The most popular by far is ASDFPixelSort.

I am in no way claiming to be a well versed scholar in the genre. I'm just trying to create a small space on this board where people (including myself) can freely explore the visual element of this genre, and share our findings. Be they narrow or broad in their spectrum of techniques and influences, shallow or deep in their pursuit. It doesn't matter.
Not all of us have been immersed in this genre since time immemorial. In fact, these threads are the first encounter for many people, and they are free to contribute to their hearts' content, just like you, and others who are more in the know about the genre.
So I really appreciate that you took the time to respond with input, and I strongly encourage you to contribute with your own papes (OC or not).
